What I’d do with the iPad if I ran Apple

Well, that’s what I asked myself after the iPad announcement, but maybe that’s not where this story should start.

We’ve all be anticipating the arrival of some sort of tablet or slate for some time, but no one really had a clue what it would eventually turn out to be. I guess even now we’re still unsure until we get our hands on one. So now goes all the complaining and griping because one feature or another was left out. Analyst are already saying Apple has missed the boat (again? remember the iPod?). Guess those of us in the Apple FAN community believe every product is not just the sum of what is announced, but the potential that the product has yet to reach.

Software is one place that the iPad will really shine… or Die. It all depends on the how the developers view the product.

My best guess is that Apple releases a product without this or that feature, simply to make us buy the next generation of the product. iPhone not good enough? Well, this one has a camera, this one does video now, this one has more storage, and oh, this one is even faster. I figure, this is exactly the road Apple will go down this time too.

One obvious omission this time was a built-in web camera. I mean, isn’t this the perfect device to do video chats? I bet we’ll see that one is a year hey?

So…. guess I’ll get back on track with my story.

It was noon on January 27th in Huntsville, Alabama, and several of the guys from work were busy eating lunch. Anthony and I were discussing Apple’s announcement while periodically getting updates on his iPhone. “Basically,” I said, “it all comes down to price. I really don’t think it will be below $799, so it’s just not that interesting to me. Now, if it were around $499, I’d probably have to give it a closer look.” I would have never guessed in a million years that Apple would aggressively price the iPad at $499, but hey, you gotta give them props.

Ok, now I’m stuck. At $499, the price is right, but there are a few missing pieces that I’d like to see fixed before I plunk down my hard earned cash.

Guess that’s what this site is ultimately all about.

Call me lazy, unwilling, or unable to produce the products on this site’s WISH LIST, but how else am I going to waste my evening away?
